Australian mezzo-soprano Angela Hogan completed a bachelor of music performance at the Victorian College of the Arts in 2007, and has since been captivating audiences in Melbourne and abroad in many and varying roles. A professional and versatile performer, Angela returned from China earlier this year where she performed the title role in Bizet’s Carmen on an international tour. Since then, Angela has worked with Melbourne opera in their national tour of Cosi Fan Tutte (as Dorabella) and with Melbourne Lyric Opera in their 2013 Melbourne season of Iphigenie en Tauride (as a priestess and in the title role of Iphigenie). Angela has worked with Melbourne Opera on a number of occasions now, playing the roles of Carmen and Frasquita in Bizet’s Carmen (2011 & 2012), Dorabella in Cosi Fan Tutte (2012 & 2013), Musetta in La Boheme (2012 & 2008), and Valencienne in The Merry Widow (2011 & 2013). In addition, Angela has performed a number of roles with Melbourne Lyric Opera including their 2011 Zarzuela double bill (as Casta and Juana), Dido and Aeneas in 2010 (as Dido), and Il re Pastore in 2009 (as Elisa).
Other roles that Angela has performed include Farnace in Mozart’s Mitridate, Hermia in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Suor Gennovieffa in Puccini’s Suor Angelica, and Fenena in Verdi’s Nabucco. This year Angela will appear in Sirens and Melba & Moncrieff with La Prima Opera and Promac Productions respectively, both productions touring nationally.
