Belinda Paterson

Belinda Paterson is a graduate of the University of Adelaide and the Victorian College of the Arts.  Based in Melbourne, 2011 performance highlights include a soloist appearance with the Consort of Melbourne and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl; alto soloist with the Melbourne Bach Choir in Mozart’s Requiem/Bach’s Magnificat; and singing Siebel in Melbourne Opera’s Faust. She has also recently taken part in the Victorian Opera’s regional touring program, as a mezzo soloist in concert gala performances.


Roles for Opera Australia: Vittoria in The Gondoliers; and two years with the Ozopera Schools Company, as Jody the Juggler in Sid the Serpent Who Wanted to Sing and Hansel in Hansel and Gretel. Roles for other companies: Siebel (Faust); Suzuki (Madama Butterfly); Rosina (The Barber of Seville), Mercedes (Carmen), Zulma (The Italian Girl in Algiers) and Cherubino (The Marriage of Figaro) for Melbourne Opera; Lucretia (The Rape of Lucretia) for Melbourne Lyric Opera; Hansel for In Good Company; and Hermia (Midsummer Night’s Dream), Suzuki, Third Lady (Magic Flute), and Mercedes for Co*Opera Adelaide.


Belinda’s concert repertoire includes the St Matthew Passion (Melbourne Bach Choir 2006 and 2009); Messiah; Mozart Requiem; Bach Magnificat; Nelson Mass; Coronation Mass; Stabat Mater (Pergolesi; Rossini; Syzmanowski); and Britten’s Phaedra.


Belinda has appeared regularly with the Opera Australia Melbourne Chorus since 2000. She is also a past member of the Victorian Opera Chorus and the State Opera of South Australia’s chorus. She is currently completing a PhD in Philosophy (Aesthetics) at The University of Melbourne.
