Carmela de Losinno

Melbourne – born soprano, Carmela De Losinno is a graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts and Monash University. Carmela has been a member of Opera Australia since 1998 and has studied and given concerts in both Germany and Italy. She has performed operatic roles ranging from Santuzza (in Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana) and Suor Angelica (in Puccini’s Suor Angelica), to Blanche (in Poulenc’s Dialogues of the Carmelites), Nancy, (in Britten’s Albert Herring) and Mercedes, (in Carmen), among others. In 2008, Carmela played to critical acclaim the role of Anna Glawari in The Merry Widow for Babirra Theatre company and the role of Abigaille in the concert version of Verdi’s opera Nabucco with the A. C. Orchestra.


Performances also include: a season of the comic opera, ‘Postcards from Carlton” with MTO, the ’Puccini Festival Australia’ production of ‘Le Donne di Puccini’ at Her Majesty’s Theatre, and the role of Lady Bellaston in the operetta ‘Tom Jones’,with The Gilbert and Sullivan society. She has performed the Soprano solo in the oratorios ‘Elijah’ and The Messaiah with the Amadeus Chamber orchestra and was featured in ‘The Italian Master Series” with the Heidelberg Symphony Orchestra. In 2009 Carmela performed the lead role of Elvira in Verdi’s opera ‘Ernani’ with Melbourne City Opera. She also understudied the role of Tosca with Melbourne Opera and the role of Liu from Puccini’s opera Turandot with the Amadeus Chamber orchestra.


Carmela has also won several vocal competitions and was a finalist in the City of Sydney MacDonalds Aria. She performs regularly in festivals, concerts and recitals around Australia and is in constant demand for corporate events.Carmela has released a CD of Italian songs and arias, titled ‘Il Bacio’.
