Singing solo from the age of 10 and gained a Bachelor of Education (music), Associate of Music Australia (solo performance), Associate of Trinity College London (solo performance), 8th Grade Pianoforte (honours), and a Bachelor of Theology. Studied opera at the Victorian College of the Arts and a student of Merlyn Quaife’s since 1994.
Performed the role of Zita in the opera Gianni Schicchi at the Athenaeum Theatre, Melbourne. In 2001, she covered the role of Azucena in a production of Il Trovatore and in 2000 performed the title role in Carmen, by Bizet, both at the Athenaeum. In 1998, she performed lead roles in two one-act operas auspiced by the Melbourne University Music Faculty called Riders to the Sea and The Quickening (also performed at the Port Fairy Festival). She performed again at the Port Fairy Festival (2002) in the title role of the one-act opera The Widow of Ephesus by Michael Hurd which was also recorded by Naxos. This June, she is Flora in a production of Verdi’s La Traviata at the Athenaeum Theatre by the newly-formed Melbourne Opera Company.
As a member of the Melbourne Chorus for Opera Australia, she performed in their 1997 production of Manon Lescaut which included the solo mezzo-soprano part of the madrigal quartet in Act Two. Since then she has performed in La Traviata (1998), Tosca (1999), The Pearlfishers and Die Fledermaus (2000), La Boheme and Verdi’s Requiem (2001) and Don Giovanni and Die Rosenkavalier (2002).
This year, she will be the soloist in concerts for the Preston Symphony Orchestra and the Dandenong Symphony Orchestra. She is a regular soloist with St. Francis Catholic Church Choir and Orchestra, Melbourne University Choral Society, Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Society and the Choral Societies of Box Hill, Camberwell and Essendon, singing such works as Handel’s Messiah, Dominus Dixit and Judas Maccabaeus, Verdi’s Requiem, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Haydn’s Nelson Mass, Beethoven’s Mass in C Minor, Schubert’s Mass in Bb Major amd Pergole’s Stabat Mater.
Toured Canberra, Perth, Sydney, Brisbane, New Zealand and Great Britain as a vocal soloist with a variety of choirs and brass bands. She is a soloist on two CD productions by the Melbourne Welsh Male Voice Choir, and was guest soloist for their performances at the Melbourne Concert Hall in 1999 and 2000.
