Fiona Jopson

Fiona is a graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts with a Bachelor of Music Performance (Repertoire) in 2009. She was the 2010 recipient of the Amelia Joscelyne Memorial Scholarship through the Dame Nellie Melba Opera Trust.


Fiona made her professional debut in Opera Australia’s chorus for the Melbourne season of Turandot in April 2012. In the 2012 Herald Sun Aria Competition, Fiona was awarded 3 rd prize.


2013 sees Fiona making her role debut as Marzelline in Fidelio with Melbourne Opera and will be a part of the Victorian Opera Chorus for their 2013 Gala Concert.


She has had many successes in eisteddfods and vocal competitions. She was a Semi Finalist in the Herald Sun Aria competition (2009, 2010 & 2011) Quarter Finalist in the McDonalds Aria (2010 & 2011), Sydney Eisteddfod Opera Award Finalist (2010), Winner of the Robert Salzer Vocal Championship (2010), Warrnambool Aria Finalist (2010), Finalist in the Joan Sutherland and Richard Bonynge Vocal Scholarship (2011 & 2009) and Runner-Up in the Robert Salzer Vocal Championship (2009) at Boroondara Eisteddfod.


Fiona has performed the roles of Melpomene in Halcyon Days – The Quest for a Wife by Cameron Menzies (DNMOT), Zelatrice in Puccini’s Suor Angelica (VCA), Micaëla in Bizet’s Carmen (VCA), Oberon in A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Britten (VCA), 2 nd Boy in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte (VCA), Witch 2 and Sorceress in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas (VCA). She has also been part of live broadcasts on 3MBS-FM and ABC Classic FM (Melbourne). In addition Fiona has performed as a Soprano Soloist in Bach’s Magnificat in D and Mass in F Major.


In addition to her studies, Fiona has participated in Master Classes with Dennis O'Neill, Lisa Gasteen, Stuart Skelton, Malcolm Donnelly, Amanda Thane, Glenn Winslade, Geoffrey Chard, Raymond Connell, Janice Chapman, Cheryl Barker and Yvonne Kenny.
