Michael Lapiña began his professional career performing in musicals and touring extensively in Australia and Asia as a dancer and singer with Walt Disney Special Events Group.
On the opera and operetta stage, his early engagements included the role of Dick Deadeye in HMS Pinafore, Leonard May in Yeoman Of The Guard, the lead tenor role of Nanki Poo in The Mikado and Strephon in Iolanthe all for Savoy Opera Company and Yussaf in Rose Of Persia for the Gilbert & Sullivan Society Of Victoria.
His appearances for Melbourne Opera have included singing the role of Beppe in I Pagliacci during 2010 and singing the title role in Gounod’s Faust, during 2011.
His other recent operatic engagements include the role of Malcolm in Verdi’s Macbeth for Heidelberg Choral Society and, during 2011, roles in Melbourne Lyric Opera’s double-bill of La Verbena de la Paloma and Los Bohemios and The Emperor in Puccini’s Turandot for Monash University.
On the concert platform, Michael Lapiña makes regular solo appearances in concerts for Rotary International, he has been guest soloist in concerts with the Philippine Male Choir in Bacoor, in the Philippines and has appeared in opera concerts for the Monash Chorale and, most recently during 2010 and 2011, performances of the Verdi Requiem and Puccini’s Messa da Requiem with the Camberwell Chorale and an extended series of opera concerts in major cities throughout China.
