Polina Volfson

Polina was born in St Petersburg, Russia. She began singing in children’s choirs at the age of five. Seven years later she joined the Kirov’s Theatre choir, where she performed in Salammbo by Musorgsky, Nutcracker and The Queen of Spades by Tchaikovsky, and Verd’s Othello. In 2000, Polina completed her degree of Bachelor of Music Performance (Voice) and in 2001 attended the VCA Opera Studio. That same year she debuted in the opera Der Keiser von Atlantis by V. Ulmann with the Geminiani Orchestra conducted by Marco van Pagee and directed by Caroline Stacey. Last year in St Petersburg, Polina won the first prize at the World Festival Suoni Colori del Mondo and received Honorouable Mention at the Festival of S. Rachmaninoff. In 2001, she won the Mabel Kent Singing Scholarship and in 2000 the Murray Vagg Singing Scholarship, the Sleath Lowrey Encouragement Awarx, and was named the Athenaeum Singer.
