Raymond Lawrence

Raymond is a graduate of the Queensland Conservatorium of Music where he studied composition under Australian composer Gerard Brophy. He was engaged as Assistant Conductor for Queensland Conservatorium's production of Britten's Albert Herring' and conducted performances of his own compositions, 'Les Nuits' and his operatic scena 'Medea'.


Following his studies he joined Opera Queensland's Young Artist Program as a repetiteur where he was also Music Director for their Moving Opera! Program. In 2011 Raymond took up the position of Head of Music for Melbourne Opera. During this time he has prepared soloists for operas including Faust, Carmen, Cosi fan Tutte, La Boheme, Fidelio, La Traviata, Merry Widow, Rienzi, The Pearl Fishers, Der Freischutz, The Barber of Seville, Mary Stuart, Il Seraglio and Tannhauser. In 2012 Raymond took on the additional responsibilities as Chorus Master with Melbourne Opera.


Raymond has conducted The Merry Widow, MO Verdi Gala, La Traviata, The Pearl Fishers and most recently, The Barber of Seville and II Seraglio. Since 2014 Raymond has been Musical Director of Opera Australia's Victorian Schools Tour and is currently Musical Director for the City of Stonnington's Opera in the Park. Raymond is in demand as a vocal coach, working with some of Australia's leading professional and emerging professional singers.
