Suzanne Chaundy



Trained at NIDA as a director, Suzanne’s 30 year career spans opera, text based theatre and outdoor spectacle. Opera direction credits include: THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO and DON PASQUALE for the West Australian Opera, LA BOHÉME for Opera Australia, COSI FAN TUTTE for the Victoria State Opera and for Melbourne Opera (nominated for Greenroom Award Best Direction). She has directed LA TRAVIATA, DER FREISHCHÜTZ, MARIA STUARDA, THE ABDUCTION FROM THE SERAGLIO and most recently, the critically acclaimed TANNHÄUSER for Melbourne Opera. For Lyric Opera of Melbourne she has directed WERTHER and the Australian Premiere of OUR MAN IN HAVANA. Suzanne has directed for IMG, Red Stitch Actors Theatre, Theatre Works, Melbourne Theatre Company, Sydney Theatre Company and many others. She has also been active in a governance role in a number of key Victorian arts organisations and recently retired as Chair of Melbourne’s leading independent theatre company Theatre Works. Suzanne directed signature productions for Australia’s internationally renowned outdoor performance troupe Strange Fruit – THE FIELD and THE SPHERES. Her productions for that company have been performed in over 300 international festivals and events in more than 40 different countries. Recently Suzanne directed IN BETWEEN TWO for Performance 4a in the 2016 Sydney Festival and is the current Artistic Director of Opera in the Park for the City of Stonnington.
