Teresa LaRocca

Completed a drama and music degree at Adelaide University with performance experience including the roles of Fifi La Touche and Sophie for the Kidney Art Ensemble’s Diary of a Madman during the 1994 Barossa Music Festival.


In 1995 Teresa was a finalist in the singer’s heat of the ABC’s Young Performers Award. She won the State Opera Aria and was a finalist in the Robert Stolz Scholarship.


Her roles for SOSA include, Norina in Don Pasquale, Parasha in Stravinsky’s Mavra, Yum Yum in The Mikado, Despina in Cosi Fan Tutte and the soprano role in the highly acclaimed Fire Requiem, Flamma Flamma for the Adelaide Festival. For the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Teresa has performed in their Symphony Under the Stars, A Viennese Concert, Handel’s Messiah and the soprano solo in Vaughan Williams’ Symphony Antartica.


Teresa is a principal singer with Co*Opera. Her roles include, Pamina and Queen of the Night in Magic Flute, Musetta and Mimi in La Boheme, Micaela in Carmen, Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro, Violetta in La Traviata and Despina in Cosi Fan Tutte. She appears in the movie Shine and was a Young Artist with the State Opera of South Australia.


In 1998 Teresa was awarded several prizes, including second place in the Covent Garden Scholarship; she won both the prestigious Herald Sun Aria and the Metropolitan Opera Award. 2001 saw Teresa perform several concerts with the Surabaya Symphony Orchestra in Indonesia, including Handel’s Messiah. She returned to Surabaya last year to sing the Exultate Jubilate by Mozart.


With Opera Australia, Teresa has covered several roles including, Despina in Cose Fan Tutte, Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro, Marzelline in Fidelio and Antonia in The Tales of Hoffmann. She made her debut with Opera Australia singing Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute and last year performed the role of Musetta for Oz Opera’s touring production of La Boheme. For the Bel Canto Opera Company she sang Adina in The Elixir of Love and Norina in Don Pasquale and recently she sang highlights from Rigoletto with the Tokyo Philharmonic in an Opera Gala.


In 2003, she appeared as soloist with the Sydney Symphony in their Amore series of concerts and returned to OzOpera as Musetta in La Boheme. 2004 sees Teresa sing the Milliner in Der Rosenkavalier for Opera Australia and cover major roles in their productions of The Magic Flute and The Marriage of Figaro.
