Melbourne Opera’s Ring cycle hits its stride with an energising second instalment of Wagner’s tetralogy now playing at the Ulumbarra Theatre in Bendigo, Victoria.

“As in Rheingold, conductor Anthony Negus drew wonders from the Melbourne Opera Orchestra which he directed with energising pace and brilliant grasp of Wagner’s imagery. It’s scarcely believable that a part-time ensemble could offer such a powerful experience”

“Like Rheingold, Walküre is an existing production remounted as part of Melbourne Opera’s full Bendigo cycles. Siegfried was seen in a concert performance in Melbourne last year while Götterdämmerung has never been tackled by Melbourne Opera. That makes the Bendigo enterprise particularly gutsy but the success of Walküre augurs well.”
